Izzy Hurts

MONDAY

Last night was just awful. Isabelle was in an awful lot of pain. She whined & whimpered all night. It was almost impossible for her to sleep. We had even given her 2 tramadol pills from Bud's leftovers.

She has been steadily going downhill health-wise this last week. We have seen it in her walks with us and in everything she is doing. Slight bouts of dementia when she looks at us as if she does not recognize us. An inability or no desire to eat or drink water. Her back legs have been getting worse all the time.

So I scheduled an appt for her at the vet. Took her down at 10:00 since they had a cancellation. It was extremely difficult getting her back downstairs as she had finally settled down on her bed. It was extremely difficult getting her into the car. She can barely use her back right leg! Dr. Mike prescribed powerful anti-inflammatories for arthritis & more tramadol. He advised if these don't work within 5-10 days, or if they adversely affect her liver, then we would be looking at putting her to sleep to relieve her pain. I do not want to be one of those people that attempt to preserve their painful life while getting "just more time" out of a beloved dog. Isabelle is 9.5 years old and has lived a good long life with us. She has traveled everywhere with us. Visited her favorite beach & peed on the sand. She has slept in the truck with daddy at the shop, she has hung around the shop with the "guys".

After the vet visit was over, we drove to Spirit Lake to get groceries. I came home and made another omelette. Yum.

Gave Isabelle her pills and she pretty much passed out for the rest of the day. Poor baby.

Daddy came home at 5:30 and gave her a hug.
